The first Santa in Denmark
The first Santa who appears in Denmark is "The Old Christmas". In "Peter's Christmas" from 1866, it is him who "with big boots on" goes through the city. "The Old Christmas" is not a real Santa, because he does not bring gifts. He is inspired by the German Christmas figure Herr Winter, which is a mix of Winter and Christmas. He comes with the Christmas tree, but without gifts. The Old Christmas in "Peter's Christmas" has a little light in his hat, he walks around the city listening to the doors. The places where the children are naughty passes by. But the places where they are fun, he walks in. Then he takes the light off the hat and turns the Christmas tree on with it. And then the real Christmas atmosphere is spreading
